If perception is the only important thing in life, then why lying is a bad thing
as long as the other person doesn't find out the truth.
The truth lays within one's self. Try not to ignore the guilt.

Although "smart" is the common word people want to pursuit; in fact, "Wise" should be the one we all go after.
Wisdom are the emphasis from both Greek and oriental philosophies include integrity which nowadays the short
term opportunistics lack of. Fortunately, most of the people still have conscience which acts as a guiding angels
within.
lying may not be a bad thing. But the pain and suffering that automatically attaches after finding out the truth is almost always unbearable.
When there is a lie, there is always a chance of such pain and suffering. If knowing that the person that you lied to may suffer from emotional
and possbily physical pain after learning the truth and you can bear to watch that person suffer, then i am sure you have a good reason to lie.
